The Grand Finale

The following week after Jordan's work threw us a shower, I hit my 36-week mark. It was to the day, actually that I was up all night being HUGE and uncomfortable. The reason I was so uncomfortable this particular night was that 2 days previous our air conditioning went out. Not only was the a/c out, but the entire country was experiencing a heat wave and it was hot and humid in our cute little house. I spent my 'free-time' in those midnight hours entertaining/distracting myself with my new Kindle Fire Jordan had been thoughtful enough to surprise me with. Once Jordan's alarm went off in the morning and he started getting ready for work, I really started to feel miserable. The heat had gotten to me, yes, but now I was experiencing extremely sharp cramps on my left side that shot through to my back and down my left leg and I couldn't blame this pain on the heat. After trying to hug a pillow all morning, crying, and praying the pain went away, I told Jordan he probably needed to stick around until I felt a little better. I called my doctor's office and my doctor was out of town. They told me they couldn't get me in because of how busy they were with him being gone. The nurse told me if the pain was bad enough I could go to the hospital. Feeling hopeless and helpless, I soon realized the pain was bad enough and I should get to the hospital {with the help of an encouraging mother who, summed up, pretty much told me to get my scared booty to the hospital}. At the hospital they determined I was not in labor, I did not have a kidney infection, and the pain was probably just part of being 36-weeks pregnant. They sent me home with some Percocet. After taking the Percocet and the pain increasing once I got home, I was really feeling crummy. I knew pregnancy could be more than uncomfortable, but the amount of pain I was in, could in no way be part of the normal 'discomfort' related to pregnancy. Jordan was miserable as well. He couldn't stand seeing me in such distress. He called my doctors office once again and got to speak to the on-call doctor. The doctor told us to go back to the hospital. So I reluctantly got back into the car (roads here in Oklahoma are ridden with pot-holes, especially the road to the hospital and each car ride left me sobbing and cringing). Since I hadn't been able to eat anything all day they immediately hooked me up to some fluids, drew more blood, and gave me a shot of Demerol for the pain. I felt great! This time around they told me the baby was on my sciatic nerve and still there was nothing they could do. All I can hope for is that the baby moves at some point. The Demerol wore off as I slept that night, but I woke up not feeling nearly as bad as the day before. I didn't feel like running a marathon, but I felt considerably better. It was a  HUGE  blessing because early that morning I had to get up and let the a/c guys completely replace our air conditioning unit. It took that whole day for the new unit to get the house back to feeling livable, but we were just grateful it was on its way to cooling off. After that day, I felt pretty horrible for 1 week. I couldn't eat anything, I was getting an hour or two of sleep at night, I had to sit straight up in bed and couldn't shift from side to side. Jordan had to help me out of bed, into the bathroom, and he got me back in bed. We spent the Fourth of July back in the hospital. They got more fluids in me, ran more tests and after that visit I finally started to feel a little better with each day. My parents decided they needed to get here sooner than they had originally planned and arrived a couple days later to help out, give us some relief, and nurse me back to health. I had a doctors appointment once my doctor got back in town and even though I had not been eating for over a week, I had gained weight. That put up a small little red flag. The nurse took my blood pressure and it was normal when I first got there. The doctor checked me and said I was dilated to a 1 and things looked good. He asked if I wanted to set a date to be induced {he knew how miserable I had been with the sciatic pain} and he scheduled me for Friday, July 20 {my due date was July 26}. Yay! An end to the misery! Before I could leave the exam room the nurse told me to sit tight for a minute. They had checked my urine and found protein in it, which is a sign of Pre-Eclampsia. Another nurse took my blood pressure again {only 15 minutes after the first time it was taken} and it was high. I have always had perfect blood pressure - - always 120/80. Always. She took it 3 more times and each time it was bad. My doctor came back in and told me to get the hospital for more tests. At the hospital they drew more blood and took more urine samples and the results were still inconclusive. They sent me home with homework. I had to collect my urine for 24-hours and keep it on ice. Lovely. I went back to my doctor 2 days later and the hospital still hadn't gotten the results of my 24-hour urine test back, but the doctor assured me everything was okay and he would call me once he found out. A week went by since I first heard the word Pre-Eclampsia and I was back at my doctors office on Monday, July 16. By this point the sciatic nerve pain was but a distant nightmare, still causing a little pain, but absolutely nothing compared to what it was. I still hadn't heard back on the urine test so even that wasn't worrying me and overall, I was feeling pretty good. I was walking through the hall into the exam room when I passed my doctor. He looked at me and pointed and said, "YOU are headed to the hospital. YOU are having a baby today!" Seeing a puzzled look on my face, he replied, "Oh, I'm serious." Then disappeared into another exam room. A few minutes later he came in to my room and explained that he had gotten my tests back late the following night and almost called me then, but saw that I was coming in the next morning and thought he would wait to tell me. I did have Pre-Eclampsia, my blood pressure was increasingly worse, my swollen feet and legs {if that is what you could still call them}
and the rest of my swollen body and rapid weight gain was all related to the Pre-Eclampsia and I was to get my 38-week pregnant body to the hospital to have this baby. I was ecstatic. From the moment I was 36-weeks and in crazy amounts of pain, I was ready to get that baby out of me. I called Jordan and told him the good news. The doctor gave me 1 hour to get to the hospital. I hadn't packed any bags {I thought I had a few more days until I got induced}. I quickly gathered the necessities and headed for the hospital.
Ready to meet this baby and get rid of all the plumpness!
I am so blessed my parents came early to help out.
Even though from the moment they got here, I started feeling better with the sciatic pain, they were still were very much needed because of all the extra drama now with the Pre-Eclampsia and me having the baby earlier than anticipated.

American Airlines Baby Shower

Oliver’s early arrival threw off my blogging a bit.

Had I been a little more on top of things, {I do have an excuse which you have yet to hear about} I would have accurately blogged about this particular post when it happened, in the middle of June. So let's just pretend it is June.
Jordan's co-workers were super nice and wanted to throw us a  baby shower .
The Invitation
I was extra excited because it has been my only opportunity to be invited into the security-tight American Airlines base. {You have to go to extreme measures, like have a baby, to get in.}
I have wanted to see where Jordan does his 'work thing' & also it was great to meet everyone and put faces to all the names I hear about.
They fancied up the place a bit. :)

The Cake
The Guests
{Only 1/2 of the room was pictured...and not everyone was able to stay for the whole thing. Like most of the guys Jordan works with were really "busy" during the festivities. Ha! Can you blame them?!}
Jordan got to open these presents, which was fun for him. Even if he didn't understand which way to hold the little outfits. This one, for example, he was holding upside down and saying how cute it was until I corrected him and held it up the right way. Everyone got a kick out of Jordan's inexperience.
We got a lot of great things that we needed & we felt like we made out like bandits!
♦ The Port-A-Crib/Bassinet we registered for {Super excited about this!}
♦ Rubber Duckies
♦ Diapers and Wipes a plenty!
♦ Changing Table Pad Cover
♦ Bottle Brush
♦ Bibs
♦ Spoons
♦ Wash Cloths
♦ Baby Socks
It was so great to meet everyone and we truly appreciate their generosity.
 Thank You American Airlines Purchasing Department!!!

King of the Castle

We have a King of the Castle in this house.
His name is Cadbury.
His reign has been great, but alas, all good things must come to an end.
Soon {6 very short weeks}, he will no longer rule this house, but another will take his place.
So in honor of King Cadbury, I thought I would dedicate this post to

His Royal Highness.
The first time we saw the little guy was when this picture was taken...
we {more Jordan than me, I was a little reluctant because I know how attached I get to dogs} wanted to take him home this very day, but had to wait 2 weeks because he was a stray and the shelter wanted to make certain his owners weren't looking for him. He was 4 months old and as cute as can be, how could someone not go searching for him?!?  I am glad they didn't.
Jordan works up close by the shelter so on the day we could bring him home, he went and picked him up while I anxiously waited at home.
Together at home for the first time...
Can you tell I am so excited? :)
We had bought a kennel and were planning on him sleeping there. I think he even did the first night. The second night we put him in his kennel and since he came home from the shelter with Kennel Cough, putting him in there upset him and it was the most horribly sad sound of him coughing that Jordan and I just couldn't take. So we let him sleep with us.  From then on, he slept in our bed.
{No worries, I am a neat-freak and he gets bathed once a week...that is an improvement on my part because I used to bathe him every 2 or 3 days.}

That is up until about this last week, when I created him his

own ‘King Size’ dog bed...he hasn't complained.
Anyway, I love looking back at his puppy pictures. He was so squatty

and plump
and his paws were about as BIG as his head.
Cadbury stats:
♦ 32 pounds of pure muscle
Loves to chase and bark at bunnies, squirrels, and birds {*Bunnies are his favorite}
Loves to play fetch with his rubber ball or assortment of chew ropes
♦ He can sit, roll over, play dead, speak, shake, and stand on command
♦ He is obsessed with socks. Not to chew on just to carry around and put his head on. {You know, like a blankie.}
Loves other people and other dogs. He is very social.
♦ His favorite fruits are apples and bananas. His favorite vegetable is snap peas. His favorite snack is left-over cereal milk. Oh, and his favorite dog treat is Beggin' Strips. {He really hasn't met a food he doesn't like.}
♦ His favorite person in the whole wide world is Jordan
♦ He would make quite the soccer player...check out this video.
Cadbury can definitely be troublesome as you have seen in the past...
or as you can see here...
{I guess the video doesn't make him look like he is troublesome...it was once the camera was off and Jordan left for work that I found the same roach in my house. I guess Cadbury just wanted someone to play with. I had to tell him we aren't friends with roaches and we DEFINITELY do not bring them in the house.}
but he keeps us busy, makes us laugh, and loves us unconditionally.
I hope you have enjoyed our undivided attention - -
Party is over dude. Enjoy your last 6 weeks as an only child.

Pregnancy Cravings

Jordan was really hoping I would experience some bizarre pregnancy cravings. I think he looked forward to me eating Pickles and Ice Cream. To his disappointment, I have not craved anything abnormal.
Mostly, I crave fruit & cold beverages. {If those 2 things happen to be involved in the same edible form - GREAT! Jamba Juice & I have had somewhat of a love affair.}
Normally, I am a chocoholic and ice cream addict.
Those things have not been so appetizing to me.
Instead of Chocolate Chip Cookies, I have been making
Lemon Crinkle Cookies
I found this recipe on Pinterest & it sparked my {p}interest :) because this recipe won the LDS Cookie Bake-Off. I will warn you, if you make a single batch you will be sorely disappointed. Double it, trust me!

Lemon Crinkle Cookies:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 tsp. lemon zest
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups flour
Powdered Sugar

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, lemon zest and juice. Scrape sides of bowl and mix again. In separate bowl combine dry ingredients (excluding powdered sugar). Combine with creamed mixture. Roll dough balls in powdered sugar and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 - 11 minutes or until just browned on the bottom and top looks matte (not shiny). Cool on hot cookie sheet for 3 minutes before cooling on wire racks.

I made this cake the other day and both, Jordan & I, have been counting down the minutes until we could eat another piece.
Mandarin Orange Pineapple Cake

{I have never liked mandarin oranges, but I may be converted.}
So do yourself a favor and make this easy-as-pie cake.

Mandarin Orange Pineapple Cake:
1 yellow or white cake mix
1 large can of mandarin oranges, separate oranges from juice BUT save juice

Follow directions on box for cake, BUT replace water for mandarin orange juice. Stir chopped up mandarin oranges into batter. Bake as directed on box.
Cool completely before frosting.

Frosting:
1 med. size Cool Whip (or 2, 8 oz. containers)
1, 4 oz. package vanilla pudding
1 can Del Monte crushed pineapple, drained of juice

Mix 3 ingredients together (discard pineapple juice) and frost cooled cake. Refrigerate cake, it gets better each day!

In somewhat unrelated news, I found this image on Pinterest  & sent it to Jordan. He got a kick out of it because it pretty much sums me up.

Happy Baking!

Oliver's Room

Our little Oliver

has quite the room awaiting him upon his arrival into this world. With lots of help/generosity from family, we are ready for him to come.  My sweet Mom got us the crib bedding & the 2 Nursery Rhyme pics above it. The crib is from Jordan's sister, Jenni, I just had to paint it. The rug is one of my Great-Grandma's rag rugs.
{The blanket hanging is the one I made for the little guy.}
My parents donated the white bookshelf & my Aunts who just trekked across the country for antique shopping brought it to me. The books were donated by Heather, Mom, and Bethany. The pictures and frames were gifts from Mom and Heather. The Winnie the Pooh beanie babies are treasures from my
 past. The red frame on top (still in its packaging) is for

Oliver’s baby picture once he makes his grand

appearance. My glider chair was a gift from Elyce & Anita. {I have ALWAYS wanted a glider chair to rock my babies to sleep.} My Mom made the cute snuggly blanket (along with dozens of others that are neatly folded in that there closet).
These pictures were all collections through the years {since I knew this would be the theme to my nursery a while ago}. Jordan found the lighthouse night light for me at an antique store {I love lighthouses & dream of owning a lighthouse house one day}. The knitted hat was an adorable find by Aunt Bethany. The fabulously soft elephant is from my sister-in-law Ginny and her mother {I him}. And finally, the dresser is from my parents, I just fixed it up with some paint and knobs.
I am still considering whether or not a changing table is needed.

Also searching for the perfect letter "O" {for Oliver }

to hang somewhere. So there are still a few finishing touches to be done, but pretty much...we are ready for this guy to come play with us.

Goodness In Arizona

During my last trip to Arizona as a carefree childless woman, I got to do some fun things with my fam.
Side Note: Waiting in the airport to fly to Arizona, I looked out the terminal window and saw a gentleman grilling up some grub...
It was 9 a.m., a little early for burgers, I would say.

Jordan and Elyce flew in on the same night. The next day Jordan went camping with his friends overnight while the rest of us got ready for my baby shower .
Once Jordan got home we all drove out to the new Rudy's in Chandler.
{Remember we fell in love with it here & oh, how we wish they had one in Tulsa.}
{Be sure to look allllll the way down the table...those are little Shillipeppers at the end.}
It was the perfect place to go and eat together with 8 kiddos under the age of 8, but not be too disruptive to others.

Mmmm...Good Eats!
Is this vintage-esque Charlie Brown shirt not the cutest thing?!?
The next day we went to the Phoenix Children's Museum.
Heather & I supervising the kids at the "car wash" - the kids ride trikes through the car wash.
(Earlier that day I went swimming with Elyce, Lucy, and Nora - - that is why I am sportin' a sunburn.)
There is always room for one more on an elevator. NOT, I will take the stairs, thank you!
Drool face...Drake, not my mom.
This room had felt words with Velcro on the backs and the walls were also lined with Velcro so you could create funny sentences. It was pretty clever.
Grandpa supervised / took a nap.
The Noodle Jungle...I want one in my house please!
Not sure what this was exactly, but it sure looks like it must be fun by the look on Mom's face. :)
Break time for the adults. Loading up on some caffeine, I believe.
These guys were shopping in the grocery store...they push their kid size grocery carts through the aisles of play food and then check out at the cash registers. It is one of the favorite areas.
The crown jewel of the museum was not pictured for whatever reason...there is a mega cool jungle gym. {Like McDonald's Play Place on crack.}
Norie liked sitting with her best bud {Grandpa} in the reading area while he read.
Thanks Betty for getting us all in for FREE! Fun was had by all!
Later that night we had a very nice dinner, game, and video presentation (pictures from the last decade) with the Rogers. It was very rare that we were all in town at the same time.
It was fabulous to be in Mesa for Mother's Day!
Jordan got me 'Pre-Mother's Day' Roses before I left for Arizona,
and I get this lovely necklace
once Baby Boy is born.{Since he is due at the end of July, we don't know if the birthstone will be a ruby or peridot for August.}
Anyway, everyone came to Mom & Dad's to celebrate.
Wow!
Elyce and Oscar
Nora, Mom, Lucy
Joey (I call him Josephine), Heather, Chris
Blake and Elyce
Hallie, Mom, Oscar
Bennett, Adam, Jocelyn
Mom, Chris, Joey
Beth and Mom
Mom and Boyd
Joey and Elyce
And my personal favorite...
Mom and Ben
:)
I stayed a few days extra after Elyce & Jordan flew back home to Colorado and Tulsa.
I was able to join my parents for a nice little afternoon in the sweltering heat to see the Angel Moroni be placed on top of the Gilbert temple.
Pre-Moroni
On His way...
{Moroni is attached to the crane on the right.}
And His final destination.
As you can see from the second picture, it was the popular place to be at 2 in the afternoon in temperatures in the triple digits. Thankfully, Sam's Club was close by and provided a much needed cooling off space. It was really neat to see the 12+ foot, gold-leafed angel reach the top.
The day I flew home I finished up a quilt I made for our Baby Boy.
It was my first quilt I sewed together from start to finish. Thanks Mom for teaching me!
{There is a picture of it completed in the coming completed Nursery post.}
We also managed to make 4 batches of Apricot Jam. My parents Apricot tree only provided 1 apricot last year and this year it was loaded to the max. All the neighbors and family had picked it over and there were still apricots coming out of our ears so we made the jam. I brought home 1 tiny jar and am looking forward to my parents coming pre-birth and bringing me more. So delicious!
I got to stuff myself silly with lots of Mexican food (since Tulsa does not offer what I would consider mouth-watering Mexican cuisine - besides Chuy's). I also ate a lot of frozen yogurt and Nielsen's Chocolate Covered Cherry Custard - my favorite! It will be too long before I can return to Arizona. A lot has to happen between now and then, BUT, Bethany, I promise, it will be sooner than a year. {The crazy girl thinks she won't see me for the entire next year.}
 In the meantime, I have these memories to hold me over.
Thanks for the memories.
Oh, and Jordan, THANK YOU for my very fashionable compression socks & all the foot rubs...after weeks of not recognizing my own feet, it turns out they were under all that moosh after all.
